Procesión del Cristo de la Misericordia

At four o’clock in the morning, the procession of “The Christ of Soccour Brotherhood” departs from the Old Cathedral surrounding area with its “Stations of the Cross.” The brotherhood’s heirs founded by the Duke of Veragua will be only accompanied by a muffled drum and the pray of the Stations of the Cross, being this the only sound heard in the old streets of Cartagena. The images of the Virgin of the Consolation Solitude and the Christ of Soccour will carry out a penance station at the Virgin of the Rosell, old patron saint of the city. At six in the morning they will offer the first of the masses in Caridad Church, devoted on this day to this Virgin. At dawn, as it is usual with all the Virgins of our Holy Week, at the end of the procession people will sing the Cartagena’s Hail Mary.

At night, full of emotions and feelings, the first procession of the California Brotherhood departs. Its most characteristic thrones are The Christ of Mercy and the Holy Mary of Rosary. To see the procession in front of the Caridad Church fills your heart with emotion due to its fervent “portapasos” who are very devote to the thrones they carry. Santa María de Gracia Church will be a silent witness of the arrival of the procession.
