THE CITY
Once the last Californian Procession of Silence arrives, the atmosphere is broken by the Marrajos Parades. Their squads of Grenadiers and Jews announce the imminent departure of the Marrajos Processions. Jesus from Nazareth, Brotherhood holder, will depart at dawn from the Fish Market, going round Santa Lucía and through his Sorrow Way to the Meeting with the Holy Virgin of Sorrow. The two images will interwine, with the first lights of the day, one opposite the other in La Merced Square. La Veronica and Saint John the Evangelist will act as silent witnesses of this moment. A third procession, which departs from Santa María Church, joins them in La Merced Square. The three of them will go together among the joy and tiredness of the night to arrive to its end in the early morning. With the first shadows of night, the Marrajos Brotherhood shows all the solemnity and suntuosity in the great procession of the Holy Burial of Christ. The last moments of Jesus passion will pass in procession one by one along the crowded streets. Jose Capuz gives life to the performance of the Marrajos. Our Father Jesus from Nazareth, Jesus’ Despail-Santa Agonía de Cristo, Lanzada, The Holy Descent from the cross, Holy Virgin of la Piedad, Holy Burial of Christ, Roman soldiers-Santo Sepulcro, the Virgin Mary Magdalena, Saint John, Holy Virgin of Solitude are accompanied by hundreds of penitents strictly ordered and by the solemnity of the regular steps of the regiments. The beauty of the floats is enhanced by the purple Brotherhood thanks to the flowers and the light.
